(original artwork description)
Inspired by Cecilia Beaux’s oil painting titled “Dorothea and Francesca” created by in 1898, currently residing in the Art Institute of Chicago.
I’ve been meaning to study female artists, Ms Beaux stood apart from me, especially this painting. The original work on oil exudes calmness with immaculate blending and smooth strokes. They were hard to re-create with acrylic yet extremely enjoyable, different from the rest as this subjects have a more human aesthetic while keeping in line with the DasB trademark. Cecilia is a true inspiration to me, both on her ability to create exquisite portraits and on the importance she played in our house whilst growing up. My mother used to renovate paintings, while doing that she always kept a book near, which I used to read cover to cover. I recently reopened this book and fell on Cecilia’s grace again, I knew I had to add her to the Hommage series right there and then.
