Description
The original of this work (28 X 35 cm) is analog collage, encaustic and oil sticks. This complex composition centers around the profile of a classical greek sculpture from whose ear an incongruously placed gargoyle emerges. Surrounding the central head is an assemblage of handwritten and typed text and miscellaneous collage elements. Perched just beneath the central head is an upside-down seated buddha. As in all of this artist’s work, there is no formal narrative or meaning. The imagery is meant to provoke the viewer to reflect on their own meaning as they see it, and not attempt to guess what the artist intended.
The surface of the original work is highly varied and intricate. Multiple layers of collage material are visible. Some areas of encaustic medium and oil sticks reveal texture, while other areas are smooth and buttery. Larger print sizes will emphasize the variety of layers and texturing.
